Bratislava/Oslo, November 5 (TASR) - Slovak Ambassador to Norway Dusan Rozbora will attend the ceremony at which Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo will be awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize, Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Lubos Schwarzbacher told TASR on Friday.
The spokesman confirmed that the Slovak embassy in Oslo on Thursday received a note from the Chinese embassy, which called for European countries not to attend the ceremony on December 10.
Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Mikulas Dzurinda in October welcomed the decision to award the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize to Liu Xiaobo. Dzurinda earlier this year backed Liu's nomination along with another 50 Slovak MPs.
"It's an extraordinary expression of honour and respect to everyone for whom human rights are indivisible and human freedom is a value of principle," said Dzurinda, adding that his signature under Liu's nomination was an expression of Slovakia's civil tradition and recognition of those persecuted by the Communist regime in Slovakia before 1989.
