Bratislava, November 5 (TASR) - The petition with more than 125,000 signatures collected from across Slovakia protesting against construction of a mega-casino on the outskirts of Bratislava on Friday received a positive response in Parliament, with 125 MPs voting in favour of the 'no' initiative.
"On behalf of the petition committee, I want to officially hand in the petition with a firm belief that you'll do everything to stop construction of the mega-casino in Slovakia," Eleonora Mackova, chair of the committee, told Parliamentary Chairman Richard Sulik (SaS) when submitting the petition.
The petition was launched in the Bratislava borough of Petrzalka, which borders the proposed site in Jarovce, shortly before Christmas last year. Within several days it spread throughout Bratislava and the whole of Slovakia. Critics of the project claim that it may lure foreign Mafia groups to Bratislava, and that former finance minister Jan Pociatek (Smer-SD) obviously tailored the relevant legislation to the developer's needs.
