Slovakia and Germany Are Likely to Co-Operate in Military Education

Bratislava, November 2 (TASR) - Slovakia and Germany will probably co-operate in the field of education of their military officers, Defence Minister Lubomir Galko and German ambassador to Slovakia Axel Hartmann made a preliminary agreement on Tuesday.

Galko appreciated the offer of Germany to be involved in language education and military expert training. "Thirty soldiers who received education in Hamburg now hold various posts within NATO structure. We'll be glad to make a similar offer to the Germans," said Galko.

Ambassador Hartmann appreciated the idea of co-operation between the two countries and pointed to the era of Germany's reunification, when many Germans escaped to Austria via Czechoslovakia and Hungary.

"We're grateful to Czechs and Slovaks for the way they treated our people. Also because of this, we're delighted to make the aforementioned offer," said Hartmann. Most likely, more detailed specifics on the co-operation in education of military officers will be discussed at the upcoming meeting between the Slovak and German Defence Ministers.
