Parliament Approves Withdrawal of Slovak Troops From Kosovo

Bratislava, October 26 (TASR) - Parliament on Tuesday approved the withdrawal of Slovak troops from the KFOR mission in Kosovo by the end of 2010.

Even after the withdrawal, Slovakia will continue to carry out its international crisis management tasks in the Western Balkans.

Prime Minister Iveta Radicova during her visit to Kosovo in September ruled out the possibility that Slovakia's refusal to acknowledge the independence of Kosovo is behind the withdrawal.

"Slovakia's original contract was valid until the autumn of this year. So we've met our commitments," she said.

Slovak troops have been serving under the KFOR mission since September 1999. The number of servicemen and women initially reached 40, but was later increased to 140.
