Bratislava/Baumgarten, October 24 (TASR) - The construction work enabling a reverse gas flow from Austria to Slovakia in the case of another gas crisis was completed in Baumgarten, Austria on Sunday.
The ceremonial closing down of the work was attended by Slovak Economy and Construction Minister Juraj Miskov, Foreign Affairs Minister Mikulas Dzurinda and representatives of Austrian company OMV Gas & Power.
"This is an important day for Slovakia, because its energy security is being strengthened. After my recent visit to Ukraine and after today we can say that the Slovak Government has done its utmost for Slovakia's energy security, as well as for ensuring that the situation seen in January 2009 - when we witnessed a gas crisis - doesn't repeat itself anymore," said Miskov at a press conference in Baumgarten.
Miskov expressed thanks to the Austrian experts who have been co-operating on the project since the agreement was signed in 2009. "We'll be able to switch on the reverse flow literally as of tomorrow," he added.
More projects are being prepared in order to diversify energy sources, including the North-South linkage and the Nabucco pipeline, he pointed out.
According to OMV Gas & Power's representative Warner Auli, the overall costs of the technical adjustments to the compressor station reached €4 million, half of which came in the form of a contribution from the European Commission.
