Skymoen: Slovakia Offers Quite a Good Environment for Norwegian Investors

Bratislava, October 23 (TASR) - Norwegian investors view the quality of the investment conditions in Slovakia as quite good, but the corruption still remains a barrier, Norwegian Ambassador Trine Skymoen has told TASR in an interview.

"In general, the investment environment in Slovakia is quite good and most Norwegian companies haven't had significant problems so far. Any barriers? Yes. One of the challenges (for Slovakia), which we also see in the reports from trade chambers, is that investors in Slovakia feel a certain level of corruption," said Skymoen, also pointing to the index published by Transparency International.

There are various Norwegian companies doing business in Slovakia. "I can mention, for example, Norsk Hydro in Ziar nad Hronom (Banska Bystrica region), which is the majority owner of Slovalco company," she said, mentioning many others.

Better preconditions for mutual business co-operation should also be ensured by the upcoming state visit of Norwegian King Harald V and Queen Sonja to Slovakia. "The royal couple are on their foreign state visits very often accompanied by a delegation of businessmen... And we're very happy that both sides are interested in co-operation during the conferences, which we're going to have," she added.

TASR is publishing the whole interview with Ambassador Skymoen on Sunday, October 24.
