Bratislava, October 20 (TASR) - Israel has great potential to engage in trade with Slovakia, Defence Minister Lubomir Galko (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS) said at a press conference after returning from his visit to the Middle East country on Wednesday.
"Israel has enormous potential in terms of military-technology cooperation," said Galko.
"It's no secret that Israel represents a top player when it comes to the military industry," according to Galko. "Carrying out certain trades via liaisons is not always convenient. Sometimes it's much better to hold negotiations directly with the Israeli companies. I, for one, think that such trades will be quite advantageous for our state budget and the Armed Forces in general," Galko claimed.
Galko thinks that the trade with Israel is feasible, even despite the constrained defence budget. Modernisation of the army is a constant, ongoing process, he emphasised, adding that he'd like to modernise the airforce, helicopters or ground forces via co-operation with Israel.
According to him, Israeli Defence Ministry's State Secretary Matan Vilnai was interested most in the Slovak mine-clearing device called Bozena. "Currently, Israel is working on legislation to allow the clearance of a huge number of mines. So we'll see," said Galko.
