Brussels, October 19 (TASR-correspondent) - Slovakia's traditional smoked sheep's cheese (Ovci salasnicky udeny syr) is to be included among the so-called "traditional specialities guaranteed" (TSG), according to a decision made by the European Commission on Monday.
The inclusion of the product on the TSG list won't prevent Slovakia-based firms from producing this specific type of cheese under the same name, but the sheep's milk will have to come from mountain areas and the traditional way of smoking the cheese must also be observed.
Six other products typical for Slovakia, including the Spis sausage and hunter's salami, are awaiting TSG registration.
There are two other EU schemes - namely PDO (protected designation of origin) and PGI (protected geographical indication) - designed to promote as well as protect the names of quality agricultural products and foodstuffs.
