Lieberman: Israel Appreciative of Slovakia's True Friendship

Bratislava, October 15 (TASR) - Although Israel is in the spotlight of the media worldwide due to the Middle East peace process, Slovak-Israeli bilateral relations can't be overshadowed by this, Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Mikulas Dzurinda said at a joint press conference with his Israeli counterpart Avigdor Lieberman in Bratislava on Friday.

"Relations between Slovakia and Israel have been good and friendly from the long-term perspective, an intensive political dialogue is under way," said the Slovak official following his meeting with Lieberman.

The mutual friendship is attested to by the fact that Interior Minister Daniel Lipsic and Defence Minister Lubomir Galko are soon to visit Israel on an official basis, said Dzurinda.

"As well, we're all looking forward to the visit by President of the State of Israel Shimon Peres early next year," said Dzurinda.

"I would like to stress that we really appreciate Slovakia as a real friend, and ... we appreciate your support for the state of Israel," said Lieberman. "Also, we appreciate your approach to the memory of the Holocaust and your relation with the small Jewish community here in Bratislava," Lieberman said.

Dzurinda expressed his hope that the good ties will be reflected in co-operation in other areas, such as trade and commerce.

In addition, an important aspect in the relations consists in remembering the Holocaust "so that such tragic events never happen again," said former two-times premier Dzurinda.
