Brussels, October 14 (TASR) - Slovakia has agreed to increase its military contingent in the NATO-led mission ISAF by dozens of troops, with a final decision on the deployment capabilities due in the coming weeks or months, said Defence Ministry State Secretary Robert Ondrejcsak in Brussels on Thursday.
Taking part with Foreign Minister Mikulas Dzurinda in the session of the NATO Council, Ondrejcsak said "this is our most important foreign mission in Afghanistan ... we intend to contribute with the capacities in which NATO is lacking partially or completely."
Slovakia is pulling out troops from Kosovo in line with its published plans for the Serbian breakaway province but not from the whole of the western Balkans, as it will boost the European Union mission EUFOR Althea in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"We continue to find the Western Balkans important in terms of foreign security policy. We will partially boost our engagement in the EU mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Ondrejcsak.
Slovakia currently has 300 troops stationed in Afghanistan.
