Ryanair Adds New Route to Link Bratislava With Malaga, Spain

Bratislava, December 16 (TASR) - Ireland's low-cost airline Ryanair on Wednesday announced a new route linking the Slovak capital Bratislava with the Spanish coastal city of Malaga, with flights due to begin from the middle of next year.

"This brings the total number of our routes out of Bratislava to 19," Ryanair marketing director Henrike Schmidt told reporters.

As of June 22, Ryanair will fly to Malaga twice a week - on Wednesdays and Sundays, planning to carry some 30,000 passengers per year on the route. Schmidt estimates that 30 new jobs will be created as a result of the new link.

The carrier has announced ten new routes out of Bratislava this year, increasing the number of passengers carried to 1 million. "This has been a very good year for Ryanair in Bratislava. We see a very rosy future for Ryanair in 2010," said Schmidt.

Ryanair has been in talks with Bratislava airport for months to set up an aircraft base in the Slovak capital. This would increase the number of passengers as well as create new jobs. The outcome of the negotiations should be announced early next year.
