Bratislava, October 14 (TASR) - The quality of democracy in Slovakia has improved under the new Government by 0.3 points to a grade of 3.1 in the third quarter of 2010, according to the IVO Barometer published by the Public Affairs Institute (IVO) in Bratislava on Thursday.
According to political analyst Grigorij Meseznikov, this is the first improvement since 2008.
Analysts evaluated most of the monitored spheres with a grade 3, including democratic institutions, the rule of law, legislation, minority and human rights. The independent media fared slightly worse, however, on 3.5.
In 2Q10, democratic institutions, the rule of law and the media were rated at 3.5, with legislation, minority and human rights at 3.25. The overall evaluation for the quarter stood at 3.4.
The evaluation scale ranges from 1.00 to 5.00, with 1.00 representing an optimal state of democracy according to the EU's and Council of Europe's standards and criteria.
