Bratislava, October 13 (TASR) - Individual ministries will have their powers changed as of November, according to the General Administration Act amendment passed by Parliament on Wednesday.
The Culture and Tourism Ministry will lose its tourism agenda, and co-ordination on the use of financial resources from the European Funds will be transferred under the remit of the Transport Ministry. Former culture minister Marek Madaric (Smer-SD) called this a purposeful weakening of the ministry in order to appease a coalition partner. Justice Ministry State Secretary Maria Kolikova (an SDKU-DS nominee), who submitted the proposal, conceded that the decision was political in nature, but she doesn't think that the tourism agenda belongs to the Culture Ministry anyway.
The Culture Ministry will also forfeit the minority culture agenda that is to be given to the Vice-Premier for Minorities (Rudolf Chmel). Based on the proposal, the Vice-Premier for Minorities will be also partly responsible for carrying out tasks concerning radio and television broadcasting for minorities.
The Transport Ministry is to co-ordinate regional development policies, whereas the Economy and Construction Ministry will be authorized to carry out the trade with military materials.
Also, three ministries are to change their names: The Economy and Construction Ministry will be renamed into the Economy Ministry, the Transport, Post and Telecommunication Ministry becomes the Transport, Construction and Regional Development Ministry and the Culture and Tourism Ministry simply the Culture Ministry.
