Lajcak: Slovakia and EC Consider Case of Solyom's Denied Visit Closed

Bratislava, December 16 (TASR) - Slovakia views the whole matter concerning Hungarian President Laszlo Solyom's thwarted visit to Komarno (Nitra region) as closed, Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak told TASR before the government session on Wednesday.
Lajcak was reacting to a letter sent by the European Commission to Hungary stating that Slovakia didn't violate any Schengen or EU rules when it denied Solyom entry to the country in August.
"It would be good if the Hungarian side considered this issue closed, as we and the EC do. It would be even better if they admitted their share of the blame for this entire unpleasant event," said Lajcak, adding that he has always viewed Hungary's complaints as being aimed at Hungarian society.
"Nearly everybody there (in Hungary) plays the role of interpreter of EU rules, while completely different statements come out of relevant EU addresses," said Lajcak. "This means for Slovakia that we're right ... When we do something, we consider it first and we don't shout at the world about how somebody has violated EU rules without knowing what we're talking about," said the Slovak diplomat, adding that the EC's statement serves as "a warning to all the dreamers who think that the world turns according to the decisions of Budapest".
Solyom was supposed to take part in an unveiling ceremony for a statue of Hungarian King Stephen I in Komarno (Nitra region).
