SaS to Join ELDR In Later This Week

Bratislava, October 10 (TASR) - The co-ruling Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party is on the path to becoming a member of the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party (ELDR) this coming week, TASR learnt on Sunday.

ELDR's sovereign authority, or the Congress, is set to meet in Helsinki between October 13 and 15, where the decision should be announced in the presence of SaS leader and Slovakia's Parliamentary Chairman Richard Sulik and member of the party's country-wide council Martin Chren.

Speaking to TASR, Chren said that ever since its inception SaS has been engaged in co-operation with ELDR. "Given that SaS is not a one-off political party and is a member of the governing Coalition, it's only natural that it extends its activities on to the European-wide level," said Chren, who is also state secretary at the Economy Ministry.

Back in June, ELDR's Bureau endorsed the party's membership bid.
