Bratislava, October 9 (TASR) - Investment into Slovakia's education and research sectors should be more fearless in order to combat the country's slumping competitiveness, analyst David Derenik said on Saturday.
"Slovakia's competitiveness has been falling heavily recently in prestigious rankings. Quality of education and research constitutes one of the pillars for a sustainable economic growth and an increase in competitiveness," said Derenik.
Nonetheless, the trouble lies in teachers' low remuneration. By way of comparison, salaries of teachers in the Czech Republic are 47 percent higher than in Slovakia, said the analyst.
Based on statistical figures from 2009, a teacher's pay constituted a mere 86 percent of Slovakia's average salary. In 2008, the ratio was even lower - 83 percent.
