Hamburg Top Architect: Bratislava a European Capital Only on Paper

Bratislava, October 7 (TASR) - Bratislava is a European city more on paper than in fact, Hamburg department of construction development chief and architect Peter Gero said at a press conference in Bratislava on Monday, during which he backed the mayoralty candidacy of Magda Vasaryova.
If Vasaryova (SDKU-DS, SaS, KDH, Most-Hid and OKS) is elected, Gero said that he will work for her.
"SNP Square, the square in front of Grassalkovich (Presidential) Palace, Sturovo Square and Kamenne (Stone) Square - they aren't worthy of a city of European character," said Gero.
"Bratislava should make itself more visible as a tourist destination, and I mean not only as a place for stag parties of British tourists; but also for travellers that would be able to enjoy culture, leisure time and talk about how attractive Bratislava is," said Gero.
He further complained that the current office of city's Chief Architect has no real power, which must be changed after the local elections (November 27).
