Radicova: Shutdown of NADSME Only Way to Salvage EU Money

Bratislava, October 6 (TASR) - The shutdown of the National Agency for Development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (NADSME) is the only way to salvage money from eurofunds managed by the agency, Premier Iveta Radicova (SDKU-DS) said on Wednesday.

"The only way to gain trust with respect to European resources is to transfer the money to a different institution," said Radicova.

Based on the suspicion of embezzlement, a special prosecutor is currently investigating two funds in NADSME. "That's why OLAF (European Anti-Fraud Office) has been interested in the case for quite a long time," said Radicova.

According to Economy Ministry State Secretary Martin Chren (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS), the ministry still hasn't got to the confidential contracts in the suspicious funds. The ministry will find out whether any tunnelling has taken place after receiving the documents, said Chren.

At the same time, if a fund of NADSME's risk capital makes losses it doesn't automatically mean that tunnelling has taken place. "We have circumstantial evidence that money from the funds were given to associated firms of the people that decided on the investments, however," added Chren.
