Radicova Meets Representatives of Churches

Bratislava, October 5 (TASR) - Representatives of Churches and religious communities across Slovakia on Tuesday met with Slovak Prime Minister Iveta Radicova (SDKU-DS) in what is being described as a get-to-know-each-other session.

Archbishop of Bratislava Stanislav Zvolensky said that the topics of the discussion were mainly issues related to the role of the Churches in strengthening the moral values of society. Zvolensky also said that the discussion also involved the role of Churches in connection with the improvement of the living standards of the Roma population.

Representatives of Churches also pointed to the issue of state financing of the Church education facilities. Radicova expressed the will to eliminate the difference between financing of state and church schools, so that parents will be able to decide freely which type of school their children attend.

As many as 18 Churches are registered in Slovakia, while around 70 percent of population claims to be Roman-Catholic.
