Dexia: Ownership Change to Have No Impact on Clients

Bratislava, October 4 (TASR) - Dexia Banka Slovensko won't comment on its sale, as the transaction is between its main share-holder, Dexia group, and potential bidders. "Besides, the sale requires confidentiality among the parties involved," Dexia Banka manager for external communication Michal Furik told TASR.

Furik spoke in reaction to the proclaimed interest of the J&T Finance Group in acquiring Dexia Banka Slovensko. Based on the decision made by the European Commission, Dexia Group needs to find a new majority share-holder for its Slovak daughter company by October 31.

"Dexia Banka Slovensko wants to assure the public that the impending ownership change won't have any impact upon Dexia clients nor the services provided," said Furik. According to him, a future majority share-holder will acquire a strong bank that meets all regulations and boasts a unique and reliable business model based on public and retail banking.

J&T Finance Group spokesman Maros Sykora confirmed on Monday that J&T is interested in acquiring the Dexia Banka Slovensko. The finance group has already informed DEXIA SA Brussels, the mother company, about its intentions in a letter, and has initiated the negotiations on buying out the shares of Dexia Banka Slovensko.

"J&T group is focused on private and investment banking, assets management and providing project financing. We view the potential acquisition of the Dexia Banka as an interesting investment opportunity that would allow us to extend our activities into other areas we're interested about," said J&T Group President Jozef Tkac.

The Dexia Banka Slovensko has been active on the market since 1993, with the Dexia financial group becoming the main share-holder since May 2000. It offers its services at 49 branches, employs 744 people and currently enjoys a majority share of the market of providing services for towns and villages.
