Bratislava, October 4 (TASR) - Labour and Social Affairs Ministry State Secretary Lucia Nicholsonova on Monday renewed her criticism of the ministry's previous leadership in connection with its job creation scheme dubbed 'social enterprises', which the current Government describes as inefficient and a waste of money.
In addition to her last week's remarks that the operation of the social enterprises violated the rules of state aid and economic competition, Nicholsonova said the former minister, Viera Tomanova, has known about such violations a few months after the social enterprises – focused on finding jobs for the long-term unemployed – were launched in June 2008 but failed to address the situation.
"As early as October 2008 a ministry employee (unnamed) wrote to his superior warning of the violation of state aid and economic competition," Nicholsonova told reporters.
Even Juraj Tapak, ex-head of the European Social Fund (ESF) bankrolling the project, asked the finance ministry to examine the issues surrounding state aid, only to inexplicably retract he request later.
In 2010, the Anti-Monopoly Office (PMU), at Tapak's request, examined whether the operation of social enterprises had any effect on economic competition and PMU confirmed that it violated the rues governing competition on the market.
