Bratislava, October 3 (TASR) - Supreme Court Chairman Stefan Harabin, who has been barring Finance Ministry auditors from carrying out an audit at the court for several weeks, is sticking to his argument that such an audit can only be conducted by the independent Supreme Audit Office (NKU).
In Harabin's view, this is the only way to secure the objectivity of the audit, the press department said in a statement released Sunday.
Harabin drew a parallel between the Hayeks (right-wing think-tank that was found to be in receipt of Government contracts while its members were in Government) case and that of the Supreme Court. Harabin pointed out that it is NKU which is examining the possibility of fraud in the Hayek case, and wonders why the Supreme Court – which is not suspected of any wrongdoing – cannot examine the Hayeks case too.
Harabin points to a 'double standard' of justice and objectivity. In other words, the Hayeks-linked suspects are entitled to objectivity but not the Supreme Court.
