Bratislava, September 27 (TASR) - Agriculture, Environment and Regional Development Minister State Secretary – and soon-to-be Environment Minister – Jozsef Nagy (Most-Hid) on Monday announced that he will do his utmost to get the €15 million back from Slovakia's emission quotas sale to Interblue Group.
Nagy added that he considers the emission contract sales contract as closed, and that Interblue Group has no right to buy any more quotas. The €15 million in question is an adjunct to the contract known as the 'green' project.
Nagy, who is to take up the post of the Environment Ministry on November 1, 2010, considers looking into the cases from the era of the previous government under former prime minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) as his priority.
Among his other priorities, Nagy listed the restoration of Ministry's functions, speeding up and re-evaluating the anti-flood measures. "I also want to renew the communication with the public and include this dialogue in the decision-making process in the environmental sphere," said Nagy.
Most-Hid chairman Bela Bugar stated that all coalition partners agree with Nagy's nomination. As far as the criticism concerning Nagy not being an expert in the environmental sphere, Bugar praised his party colleague as decisive, and a skilled manager. "If the critics think that this ministry, with immense public resources and a host of problems, should be run by an environmentalist and that we will find an environmentalist who will be expert on everything in the environment, then we have found a unique object – a worthy entry in the Guinness Book of Records," said Bugar.
Nagy said he is mainly an expert in working with people. But he also has "quite a good overview of environmental issues". When he takes up the ministerial post, he is ready to chose a state secretary from inside the ministry - also an expert.
