Analyst: 'Hayek Group Case' May Result in Coalition Horse Trading

Bratislava, September 23 (TASR) - The 'Hayek Group case' may result in some horse trading within the governing Coalition or cause a rupture, political analyst Rastislav Toth told TASR on Thursday.

"If Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) chairman Richard Sulik doesn't receive anything interesting [in compensation for sacking his nominee], he will want to keep him [Economy Ministry State Secretary Martin Chren]," said Toth, adding that in politics it's always 'something for something'.

"It needn't be a personnel nomination, it can be something concerning funds, property, or whatever else," said the analyst, pointing out that SaS has an ace with which to blackmail the coalition partners - namely, the threat that it will leave the Government.

When asked whether SaS would seriously consider leaving the Coalition, as some backstage voices suggest, Toth said that "as for SaS, it's difficult to say what it considers seriously or whether it takes anything seriously".

According to Toth, SaS's behaviour resembles a parvenu's game. "They are like pampered children who get a small shovel and sand, then they play there and do everything possible that had appeared to be impossible," remarked the analyst.

Toth described the attitude of Premier Iveta Radicova (SDKU-DS) as tough, despite the fact that she knows well that she needs 76 MPs to be able to govern.

"She has gone too far ... she can't step back anymore, in particular after she pardoned one state secretary [Most-Hid's Ivan Svejna from Transport Ministry - ed. note], she needs some sort of victory. Otherwise it was only a mummery," said Toth.
