Employers Worried About Big Rise in Local Taxes

Bratislava, September 16 (TASR) - The Association of Employers' Unions (AZZZ) is worried about a disproportionate increase in local taxes due to an amendment that is being prepared by the Government, AZZZ general secretary Oto Nevicky said on Thursday.
"It's more than probable that the Government will be exerting pressure on municipal authorities to balance their budgets via this specific amendment," said Nevicky.
AZZZ points out that the amendment to the local taxes act will allow local councils to raise the rates by 30 percent in the second half of 2011. "I view this as another badly thought-out step in the system of local taxes, by which businesses would cover losses in municipal incomes with share taxes. Systematic measures should be taken so that local authorities don't overburden employees," said Nevicky.
According to the Finance Ministry, it is premature to comment on these changes, as the Tripartite (representatives of Government, employees and employers) will negotiate them soon.
