Bratislava, December 15 (TASR) - A merger of two privately-held health insurance companies – in effect, representing the takeover of Apollo by its counterpart Dovera – has been okayed by the Healthcare Supervisory Authority (UDZS), it was revealed on Tuesday.
The last hurdle to the launch of a new private health insurer as of New Year is thus removed.
Dovera's new director-general Martin Simun further stated that the merger was given the go-ahead by the Anti-Monopoly Office on Monday so that the new insurer may begin operations as of the New Year.
His statement, however, is being disputed by UDZS spokesman Milan Michalic, who says that the deliberations of the government supervisory agency for healthcare on the matter have not yet been finalised.
The merger – of two companies which feature Penta Group as a major investor – comes on the heels of the merger earlier this year of two state-controlled insurers, with Vseobecna Zdravotna Poistovna taking over Spolocna Zdravotna Poistovna
According to Simun, the merger will create a top quality health insurer with 1.4 million policyholders who will experience the benefits of the link-up, among other areas, in the growing number of doctors available, under-contract facilities (11,000), services and affiliates.
