Prime Minister Radicova Praises German Firms Expansion in Regions

Bratislava, September 10 (TASR) - Prime Minister Iveta Radicova praised the expansion of German firms into the regions beset with high unemployment in an address to the First German Slovak Economic Dialogue, which was organised to mark the 5th anniversary of Slovak-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

"I highly value the new working culture in the regions, plus the social programmes and especially the expansion and activity of German firms in the regions where Slovakia needs it most," she said.

Radicova said there are strong prospects for cooperation between Slovak and German firms in innovations, technologies, science and research. "While last century was the century of Ford, this one belongs to Bill Gates. New technologies, informatics and value added work are trendsetting," said Radicova.

The high level of corruption, lack of transparency in public procurement and a lack of law enforcement are key factors behind the deterioration of the business environment, said Radicova in reference to recent surveys showing a worsening of business conditions in Slovakia. She pledged to the German firms to do her utmost to change the status quo.
