Mandate and Immunity Committee Backs No-confidence Motion in Sulik

Bratislava, September 8 (TASR) - Members of the parliamentary mandate and immunity committee on Wednesday approved a Smer-SD proposal to dismiss Parliamentary Chairman Richard Sulik (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS) from his post.
The proposal passed largely due to the absence of several coalition MPs, with Smer and fellow opposition Slovak National Party (SNS) MPs voting in favour.
"The Opposition can count as well. One MP excused himself, an SaS MP (Stanislav Fort) didn't come, even though we called his phone, so Smer-SD's proposal passed," said committee chairman Gabor Gal (Most-Hid), adding that the votes came in at 8:7 to the Opposition.
Pavol Paska (Smer-SD), who submitted the proposal, assured journalists that Smer doesn't want to make the parliamentary session dramatic. "The discussion won't be very long either, as the reasons [for dismissing Sulik] are very serious and clear arguments can be stated. We just want to give people in Slovakia our opinion as to why Mr. Sulik isn't an appropriate person for this post," he said.
The no-confidence vote in Sulik will begin start in Parliament the same afternoon. He's the first constitutional official to face this process in the current electoral term.
