Bratislava, September 7 (TASR) - Eleonora Mackova, chair of the Petition Committee against the building of a megacasino in Bratislava - a project promoted by former finance minister Jan Pociatek - presented a public petition with 125,640 signatures to Parliamentary Chairman Richard Sulik (SaS) on Tuesday.
Sulik pledged to do his best to have the petition debated in Parliament. According to him, the petition will be discussed in the House if a special commission finds that it complies with the law.
Coalition Christian Democrat (KDH) vice-chairman Pavol Hrusovsky, who was also present, praised the committee members for collecting more than the 100,000 signatures required for a debate in Parliament.
The petition drive was launched by religious organisations and civil associations on December 22 of last year in the Bratislava borough of Petrzalka. Maria Guregova, who sits on the Committee, said that she is happy with the number of signatures collected, which demonstrates that the public doesn't want people to take up gambling.
