Bratislava, September 2 (TASR) - Two years of reductions in the number of Slovaks leaving the country to work abroad have come to an end, the Slovak Statistics Office said on Thursday.
"In the second quarter of 2010, we registered a 4.7-percent jump in the number of labour migrants abroad, especially in the Czech Republic and Austria," said Ivan Chrappa of the Office's labour and salaries department.
The number of workers abroad stands at 130,500, or 5.6 percent of the country's total manpower. "Based on past results we expect this figure to increase slightly," said Chrappa.
The second quarter of this year saw a 45.9-percent increase in demand for jobs in healthcare and social affairs among migrant Slovaks, as well as a 10.5-percent increase when it came to jobs in farming and transport.
