Bratislava, August 31 (TASR) - The shooting rampage in Bratislava on Monday is a new phenomenon for Slovakia – "an event when one person terrified the whole of Slovakia," Prime Minister Iveta Radicova said following an extraordinary Government session on Tuesday.
"We all wish that the injured who are currently in critical condition will eventually recover," said Radicova.
According to Radicova, the Cabinet addressed a set of measures designed to make people feel safe again, while police patrols ought to be equipped with weapons capable of rapid-response intervention.
Interior Minister Daniel Lipsic is slated to table a proposal aimed at restricting the possession of guns as well as the requirement of regular psychological testing for those in possession of guns.
Further pre-emptive measures are set to be discussed by the executive in the near future.
The Government also decided on declaring a national day of mourning for Thursday, September 2.
"In line with the laws in effect, the Government is declaring a state of mourning for September 2 due to the serious emotional shock to people living in Slovakia as well as due to the prevalent and growing fear following this incident. We're also expressing our esteem and sympathy to the bereaved and the innocent victims of this horrific act," added the premier.
