Death Toll in Bratislava Shootings Rises to Seven

Bratislava, August 30 (TASR) - The shooting incident that took place in the Bratislava borough of Devinska Nova Ves on Monday morning has claimed the lives of at least seven people, with 14 injured, Dominika Sulkova from the Emergency Medical Service has told TASR.

Four women and three men, apparently including the gunman himself, were shot dead. Ambulances took 12 of the injured to various hospitals in Bratislava with gunshot wounds, typically to their arms and legs. Apart from the people treated for gunshot wounds, two people were forced to seek medical help for cuts caused by shattered glass.

"In connection with this incident, a three-year-old child has been admitted to casualty and is currently being treated," said Children's Hospital spokesperson Dana Kamenicka, adding that the child's life isn't in danger.

"The most critical case is a person why suffered as many as five gunshot wounds. He's in Ruzinov Hospital. He's in a critical condition and is undergoing surgery," said Ruzinov Hospital spokesperson Rut Gerzova.

"The police aren't commenting on the incident. We'll provide more information to the media as soon as possible, Bratislava regional police directorate spokesperson Petra Hraskova told TASR.

One eye-witness told TASR that she saw wounded police officers at the scene.

According to other unconfirmed information from eye-witnesses, the gunman was an older man using an automatic weapon. One eye-witness told TASR that the man was carrying three guns. There is also information that he may have had an younger accomplice.

There are reports that the gunman began his shooting spree by killing an entire family of Roma in one of the local apartment buildings, before continuing to fire out on the street.
