Bratislava, December 14 (TASR) - The development of the Slovak economy in 2010 will depend on the development of the global - but mainly the European - economy, said Slovak Trade and Industrial Chamber (SOPK) chairman Peter Mihok at a press conference in Bratislava on Monday.
According to Mihok, despite the fact that the end of 2009 points to only a slight economic revival next year in Europe (estimates state less than 1 percent), in China and India the economies are expected to grow by 8 percent and in the United States of America by 2.5 percent. The expected continuing growth of unemployment and the fiscal deficit is a bad sign for Slovakia.
In accordance with these signals, as much as 71 percent of Slovak enterprises in 2009 confirmed a worsening of the business environment. Out of a sample of 170 entrepreneurs, as much as 59 percent stated that they did not expect any change in 2010, 35 percent perceives a worsening of the situation in Slovak business and only 6 percent think the situation has improved, stated Mihok.
