Bratislava, August 28 (TASR) - Opposition Slovak National Party (SNS) MP Vincent Lukac should resign from the post of MP over his self-confessed contacts with the underworld, Prime Minister Iveta Radicova (SDKU-DS) stated on Saturday.
"I view his publicly confessed admiration for and even contacts with people whose activities may be related to the organised crime as incompatible with the post of MP," said Radicova. She added that her Government, which in its Manifesto announced tough battle against corruption and organised crime, can't tolerate Lukac's statements.
The prime minister further noted that Lukac is obliged to announce any information about the organised crime to the police.
Lukac's controversial statements came in the wake of an arson attack on his leased luxury SUV in Kosice early on Monday.
"It wasn't Mafia's job, certainly not," said Lukac (56). "I value Mafiosos and they value me," the former national ice-hockey team player told Plus 7 Dni weekly magazine.
During an interview with Hospodarske Noviny daily at a different occasion this week, Lukac wondered at the reporter's remark that he isn't a member of the Government. "Eh? Am I not in Government now?" he asked in an offended tone.
