Simon: Repair Work on Dams in Eastern Slovakia Going Well

Kosice, August 27 (TASR) - Works connected with the repairs of breached dams in eastern Slovakia continue at a "good pace", Slovak Agriculture, Environment and Regional Development Minister Zsolt Simon said on Friday.

"As long as the weather permits us to work for two weeks continuously we should be able to repair the dams and restore them to their former state. This means that the protection (against the water) would be as it was before the breach," explained Simon before the Government session held in Kosice.

Simon said that €5 million designated for anti-flood measures run by the regional Water Management Company has been wired to the Company's account on Friday. "This means that the continuous financing of the work on the dams is ongoing, and all other allocations go through the Interior Ministry," explained Simon when asked by a journalist why the money the Government promised to allocate by August 25 has not yet reached towns and villages affected by the floods.
