Bratislava, December 14 (TASR) - President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Minh Triet is to begin a three-day visit in Slovakia on Wednesday, the website of Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic announced on Monday.
After the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao in June, this will be the second visit of a leader of a country with a Communist regime in Slovakia. Hu's visit was accompanied by a series of protests organised by human rights organisations.
The demonstrations resulted in clashes between Slovak activists and what appeared to be Chinese citizens at Hodzovo Namestie, which was followed by a police crackdown against the Slovak protesters. The intervention was heavily criticised by NGOs and the Slovak Opposition.
Gasparovic visited Vietnam during his first term in October 2006.
