Bratislava, December 14 (TASR) - New Slovak Eurocommissioner Maros Sefcovic informed about the priorities of his future activities in the European Commission during a discussion in Bratislava's European Information Centre on Monday.
The discussion was entitled 'New European Commission: (The Treaty of) Lisbon Is In Effect.
Sefcovic talked about how the institutional changes will impact the activities of the European Union. One of the first tasks in his new post of Eurocomissioner on Inter-Institutional Relations and Administration will be the preparation of a new inter-institutional agreement. "We are beginning to operate in a new system. We will try to enjoy optimal co-operation between the European Parliament, the European Council, the Commission and national parliaments. On a personal note, I'm maybe a little bit optimistic, but I hope that European affairs will be more connected with member states," said Sefcovic.
He also expressed his conviction that the European Parliament elections will be more about European issues than national ones. Sefcovic thinks that the new system will allow the institutions to act faster.
The European Commission will be a more political body than ever before, which Sefcovic is content with. "The European Commission President Jose Manuel Barrosso expects that I will serve as a kind of mediator - in the respect of information-flow and communication - between the Commission, Parliament and Council," he said.
