Sered, August 26 (TASR) - Police Corps President Jaroslav Spisiak promised the people of Sered (Trnava region) that the situation in the town, which has been plagued by an ever-increasing crime rate, will improve soon, TASR learnt on Thursday.
Speaking to attendees of an extraordinary session of the town's administration, Spisiak said that he feels as if he had found himself in Dunajska Streda (Trnava region) 10 years ago. Back then, Spisiak as Police Corps head in Dunajska Streda had to tackle a similar situation involving organised crime.
"I had 240 police officers at my disposal back then, and we accomplished it within a year. Now I have 20,000 of them available, and if need be we'll deploy them all in Sered," said Spisiak.
He added that he'll start off by replacing the top ranks of the Police Directorate in Trnava. "The new people I've already co-operated with are a guarantee for me that we'll secure order," said Spisiak, receiving applause from locals in the crowded room.
The extraordinary session was called on the back of a crime wave that has prompted locals to initiate a petition urging authorities such as Prime Minister Iveta Radicova and Interior Minister Daniel Lipsic to tackle the issue. In the initiative, the people complain of a rash of drug-related crimes, robberies and prostitution – all accompanied by police idleness.
