SNOPK: Slovakia Germany's 23rd Most Important Trade Partner

Bratislava, August 23 (TASR) - Germany is the largest customer of Slovak products, with Slovakia being in 23rd place among Germany's most important foreign business partners, TASR was told by spokesman of the Slovak-German Business and Industry Chamber (SNOPK) Markus Halt on Monday.

At the same time, the trade balance between the two countries is roughly balanced, said Halt.

In total trade exchange, Slovakia has therefore been placed before such countries as Romania, Finland, Canada and India.

Germany is also Slovakia's most important partner in terms of imports, with the most important items being cars and their components, plus machines, electronic products, and measurement and regulatory devices.

German investors also play a pivotal role in foreign investments in Slovakia. "In Slovakia more than 400 German companies are active and they have created more than 85,000 jobs. German companies invested a total of €3.5 billion between 1991-2008," said Halt, adding that German investors are active especially in the regions of Bratislava and Trencin and mainly focus on the automobile, electronic and engineering sectors.
