Harabin Visits Jerusalem, Meets Israeli Supreme Court Chair

Jerusalem, August 23 (TASR) - Supreme Court chairman Stefan Harabin in Jerusalem on Monday apprised his Israeli counterpart Dorit Beinisch of the planned legislative changes involving the Slovak judiciary, the Supreme Court Press Department told TASR on the same day.

"I'm pleased that our friends in Israel are well informed about the course of events in Slovakia," said Harabin after the informal talks. "The Supreme Court's independence, including its economic independence, is pivotal for a well functioning judicial system, a good example of which is Israel."

The two chief judges agreed on the need for maintaining the economic independence of supreme courts and judges' immunity, according to the press department.

Harabin's current trip represents his second meeting with Israeli judicial representatives. During his visit to Israel in July 2008 he met his then counterpart Daniel Friedmann.
