Liptovsky Mikulas, August 22 (TASR) - The Dutch foundation Hulpprojekt Slowakije has in the past few days donated eight computers, plus clothes and toys as part of an aid project for the Roma community in Hlboke (Zilina region), village mayor Jan Blchac has said.
"We are striving to help children facing poverty, discrimination or disease. Last year we focused our attention on a fairly large Roma community living near the town of Krompachy (Kosice region)," says Cor Schipper of Hulpprojekt Slowakije.
Blchac welcomes this and any similar assistance as there are many people living in great need in the community. In addition, donated computers are a fitting contribution to our educational projects with respect to better societal integration of the younger generation.
"In addition to the eight computers we received a whole raft of child's toys and clothes for all age brackets. We decided to sell them off cheap," said Silvia Tomkova, head of the Novy Svet community centre in Hlboke, explaining that the proceeds will be used to pay fund an excursion involving local children.
