Supreme Court Broadens Criminal Complaint Against Miklos

Bratislava, August 20 (TASR) - The Supreme Court has broadened its criminal complaint against Finance Minister Ivan Miklos (SDKU-DS) over what Supreme Court chairman Stefan Harabin describes as unlawful attempts to carry out an audit at the Court, the Supreme Court press department told TASR on Friday.

"Miklos imposed an administrative fine on Supreme Court chairman Stefan Harabin despite the fact that he obviously knew that the chairman is a judge, and therefore has immunity," said the Supreme Court.

"Mr. Miklos has completely disqualified himself from the post of finance minister. Similarly as a police officer can't fine an MP according to the valid Constitution, a ministry official can't fine a judge," said Harabin as cited by the press department.

The case of the Finance Ministry's audit at the Supreme Court has been dragging for almost one month. As the ministry wasn't permitted to carry out the audit despite several attempts to do so, Miklos decided to fine both the Supreme Court and Harabin, who claims that the audit is only a pretext for Miklos to liquidate the Supreme Court's independent budget.
