Military Intelligence Service With New Chief, Hudec Under Scrutiny

Bratislava, August 18 (TASR) - The Military Intelligence Service (VSS) has had a new chief since August 13. "It's Mr. (Roman) Mikulec. Today I introduced him to the people who work there," said Defence Minister Lubomir Galko (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS) after the Government session Wednesday afternoon.
According to Galko, the new VSS director is an apolitical expert, who has been active in military intelligence for years.
The earlier appointment of Milan Hudec for the post caused an uproar, as former prime minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) somehow learnt that Hudec didn't hold a reliable security clearance. Fico further stated that VSS chief Milan Hudec familiarised himself with the VSS framework after being appointed to the post – without authorisation.
Galko then temporarily dismissed Hudec from the post, and ordered him to undergo fresh clearance tests. Prime Minister Iveta Radicova (SDKU-DS) explained that the request for the clearance test beard a later date than the test was carried out.
The controversial clearance test is currently under scrutiny of a commission. Galko revealed that the investigation is going well for Hudec.
