Smer Dismisses Kommersant Item on Fico's Gazprom s.r.o. Involvement

Bratislava, August 17 (TASR) - The main opposition party Smer-SD categorically rejects a Russian business daily Kommersant report that Smer head and former premier Robert Fico has financed the company Priemyselny park Partizanske, which is one of the alleged founders of a firm called Gazprom, s.r.o., TASR was told by Smer-SD spokesperson Silvia Glendova on Tuesday.

"The information is utter nonsense," said Glendova.

According to Kommersant, Gazprom, s.r.o. was registered in Slovakia on August 11, with basic assets of €500 million, out of which €150 million has been already paid. A company called Marica Limited, which is registered in Malta and paid up 75 percent of the deposited sum, and Priemyselny park Partizanske, which paid 25 percent, are the founders of Gazprom.

An unnamed source, allegedly from the environment of the Slovak gas business, told Kommersant that Fico's money is apparently involved in Priemyselny park Partizanske. Kommersant conceded that this piece of information hasn't been yet confirmed, however.

Meanwhile, Russian gas giant Gazprom stated that it has nothing in common with Gazprom, s.r.o., and that this represents an attempt to misuse its brand, which is registered.
