Bratislava, August 17 (TASR) - The governing-coalition Most-Hid party said on Tuesday that it won't put up a nominee for the post of environment minister until after President Ivan Gasparovic has signed an amendment to the Competences Act allowing the Government to set up such a ministry, which was terminated under the previous government of Robert Fico as a cost-saving measure.
The sitting Government of Iveta Radicova is set to relaunch a separate environment ministry whose duties were merged into an Agriculture, Enviromment and Regional Development Ministry as of September 1.
The post was allocated to Most-Hid under the Coalition Agreement. TASR has learnt that among the Most Hid-affiliated candidates are Martin Ruzinsky, former director of commerce and transport at oil-pipeline operator Transpetrol, who is currently serving as State Secretary at the aforementioned Agriculture Ministry, and Tibor Bastrnak, a member of the Most-Hid presidium.
Gabor Gal, who also sits on the Most Hid presidium and is chairman of the parliamentary mandate and immunity committee, and party caucus chief Laszlo Solymos were rumoured to be interested in the post, but have both denied this.
The party is due to decide on its nominee towards the end of this month.
