Kosice, August 16 (TASR) - Construction work on an R4 express road connecting Kosice to the village of Milhost, located south of the city and near the border with Hungary, will be launched by the end of August, Transport, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Jan Figel said on Monday.
According to Figel, August 27 is now the date that's being considered as the beginning of the R4 construction.
"It's an investment that's been discussed for a long time, and a tender competition was recently held for this investment," said Figel. "The stretch will boost transport safety as well as its operational ability and traffic, which has been particularly on the rise since Slovakia joined the Schengen zone," he added.
The costs are set to reach €77.69 million, and the road should be ready by the end of 2012, Figel said on August 5 upon signing of the respective contract between Skanska SK company and the National Highway Company (NDS).
