Galko: Overpriced Boats for Army Bought Without Tender Are Unusable

Sered, August 16 (TASR) - A public procurement involving the purchase of ZODIAC FC 470 inflatable boats for the armed forces was at odds with the law, said Defence Minister Lubomir Galko at a press conference in Sered (Trnava region) on Monday.

According to Galko, the army bought boats in 2008 that it can't use properly and which cost Slovakia almost twice as much as the going rate. The army paid around €154,000 (Sk4.6 million) for six boats, approaching only one supplier, Aeroprograss, which sold the boats for around €25,705 each when it was possible to buy the same type of vessel for €13,034, claimed Galko.

The defence minister pointed out that the boats, bought without a public tender and based on an offer from a single company, were also purchased without outboard motors, and are therefore unusable.
