Bratislava, August 13 (TASR) - New Defence Minister Lubomir Galko has had the salaries of some of his ministry's top officials looked into and has learnt that five of them received so-called "personal salaries" that equalled that of former minister Jaroslav Baska or even exceeded it, Galko's spokesman Richard Sumeghy told TASR on Friday.
"Apparently, this was one of the ways in which ministers in the former government headed by Robert Fico understood the slogan 'all for the people', that is for their close ones," said Sumeghy.
According to the spokesman, the exorbitant salaries were paid to two heads of ministry sections, another two heads of ministry departments and the former director of Baska's office.
In addition, preposterous bonuses reaching €10,000 per year were paid out to some officials, including former ministry spokesman Vladimir Gemela, said Sumeghy.
"The new ministry leadership won't continue this practice when it comes to remuneration," said the spokesman, adding that under Galko expenditure on the salaries of top ministry officials has fallen by 30 percent.
