Bratislava, August 9 (TASR) - Slovakia along with other EU-member states will thoroughly consider and evaluate the practical implications of the U.S.A.'s decision to collect fees within its visa-free regime with European countries, reads a statement issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
The new fee for pre-travel electronic form authorisation (ESTA) will be introduced for visitors travelling to the U.S.A. within a visa-free programme as of September 8, and has been set at $14. The fee in question was passed by the American Congress in February 2010, with an eye towards covering the electronic system operational costs as well as financing a new agency designed to boost tourism.
"The shared interest of the EU and the U.S.A. should be to enable the easiest possible mobility and travel for citizens between EU-member states and U.S.A.," stated the ministry.
