Bratislava, August 5 (TASR) - Foreign Affairs Minister Mikulas Dzurinda has declared Government's desire to have Pope Benedict XVI's arrive for an apostolic visit to Slovakia in 2012, at a meeting with apostle's nuncio to Slovakia Mario Giordano, the ministry reported to TASR on Thursday.
Since being elected the Catholic church's 265th pope in 2005 the pontiff has not visited Slovakia yet. In September 2009 he went to the neighbouring Czech Republic, luring in thousands of the Slovak faithful. Three years later he made appearance in Poland.
Benedict XVI's predecessor John Paul II. last visited Slovakia in September 2003 for a third time when he officiated a Holy Mass in the Petrzalka area of Bratislava. Around 200,000 attended.
Benedict XVI was officially invited to visit Slovakia by President Ivan Gasparovic last year.
